Characteristics of Near-Death Experiences Memories as Compared to Real and Imagined Events Memories

Introduction

After being close to death, some people will report having had an out-of-body experience, having seen a bright light or being passed through a tunnel; all well-known elements of the famous “Near-Death Experience” (NDE). NDEs are defined as “profound psychological events with transcendental and mystical elements, typically occurring to individuals close to death or in situations of intense…

What do you say to a parent who has lost a child?

Any doctor will tell you this is the toughest question there is. How could one presume to say anything to someone who has suffered such a thing?

During my years as a neurosurgeon, I operated on hundreds of children with brain ailments ranging from benign tumors to the most virulent cancers. Many of the children I operated on survived. But not all of them did, and on the occasions when…

First Visit to a Death Cafe

On Saturday 9th March 2013, I made my first visit to a Death Cafe. It was in Cambridge (UK) and their first meeting. I parked where I always park when going into town and walked to the venue via streets I’ve trod all my life. But it felt very different.

The first impact came from just hearing the name - Death Café. Thinking about people getting together with the sole purpose of discussing death, made me feel uncomfortable. As if anticipating this, they offer tea, coffee and slices of…

More than Self!

The Illusion of Self

We think of ourselves as separate beings isolated from the rest of the world, with our skin forming the barrier between inside and outside. This sense of separateness runs deep within the human psyche, guiding our thinking about such fundamental issues as being, life, and (particularly) death. Among Westerners, the notion of isolation extends outward to embrace humanity and exclude the nonhuman world; in this conception, humans exist outside, usually above,…

Are soul-mates real?

The Soul Mate Myth

Nothing has produced more unhappiness than the concept of the soul mate.

- Frank Pittman, Psychiatrist

Over 88% of young adults believe they have a soul mate somewhere waiting for them, according to a study by the National Marriage Project at Rutgers University. Clearly, the idea of a soul mate is pervasive one … but is it real? Where does concept of a soul mate come from and why does it have so much…

Be your Soul!

“Be your soul and not your mind”. This phrase is not new. In fact there is really nothing new under the sun. On a day to day level what we experience has been experienced by other. To be in some state of affairs we must have our conscious focus there.

Alice Bailey was a writer and theosophist who traveled the world learning from other cultures. Her primary focus was on spiritual understanding and how to apply it to daily life. In one of her books she encouraged her readers to keep…

I'm back... :) (Edited)

I'm very sorry I've been away for so long... I've returned, but, wanted to know if I can share some of my knowledge and inner-knowing, which I've learnt from my NDE years ago.. It has brought me closer in spirituality with the Universe. I've been hesitant in sharing more... My insight... But if it's okay, I'd like to share that... When I had my NDE, it taught me so much about the Universe... It taught me that the universe is a very much "feeling universe", emotionally. We still carry our…

Awareness influences our realities

A symbol is something that represents an idea, a process, or a physical entity. The purpose of a symbol is to communicate meaning. For example, a red octagon may be a symbol for "STOP". On a map, a picture of a tent might represent a campsite. Numerals are symbols for numbers. Personal names are symbols representing individuals. A red rose symbolizes love and compassion. We have from our earliest learned an almost endless series of symbols. They are integrated into our memory…

OBE and NDE Research

Greetings,

Lately I have been thinking about many of my life’s experiences. In particular out of body experiences or NDE’s. Actually I have had several of each but mostly OBE’s. At this time I will talk about near death experiences because they are my introduction to the ethereal experience. Due to illness at the age of five I had my first remembered Near Death Experience and again at ten years of age I had the really big one. Several times through the years I had minor…

Meditation

Hello,

Meditation is the focusing of attention on any subject. The mind is usually as active as the environment it is focused on. If you are in a beautiful natural setting your mind is absorbed with all the sights, sounds and smells. When this occurs, you’re resident consciousness finds relief from the chatter of your mind. If it is not possible for you to visit a natural environment then the next best thing is to find yourself a quiet spot away from distraction.

You…

I hope to hear from others

I retell my story here because it's my life, I am who I am because of it and it's a good one for me, my life as yours is as well important to share.  I believe folks that had experiences similiar to my own or not because I think there's so much more going on than we have experienced even with our experiences. Like sometimes someone will say something obscure that happened to them and it happened to me too.  It's so helpful.

I knew that there was another world very young, I…

Still on the way

Still on the way

One day a friend complained that I only write about struggle, pain, loss etc.  Well I said, writing tends to focus on the more tragic aspects of life.  When we feel joy and things go well, it seems right, there is nothing to work through, though thankfulness is in order.  It is in struggle that we are forced to ponder, think and for me, as it is true for…

They are many

(thanksgiving)

As I get older, and time goes by even faster (I will be 64 next week), I have come to understand that each moment is precious, even the painful ones. For all things pass, but the thing that stays for the whole journey, that heals, is the love I seek to develop.  As well as the kindnesses that others…

Truly human

Being human, truly human, is an enterprise that I believe we are all on.  There are cultural customs that will often stop this process, or slow it down considerably.  We are like rough pieces of furniture, unvarnished, waiting for the finishing touches to be applied so that we can be…

A veteran selling homemade leather key chains

As I was returning home from my stay in the Bargetown area in Kentucky, I remembered that in Bowling Green they have a White Castle restaurant.  I lived my first ten years in St. Louis and so have a special affection for these hamburgers and as far as I can ascertain, there are no restaurants in Georgia.  So I pulled off to have my…
